The Toronto Blue Jays acquired reliever Merkin Valdez from the San Fransisco Giants for cash considerations. Valdez appeared in 48 games last season for the Giants going 2-1 with a 5.66 ERA and 28/38 BB/K. Valdez has a fastball that tops out around 98 MPH and is expected to compete for a bullpen position this spring for the Blue Jays.
